In January of 2026, poet Renée Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Later that same month, VA nurse Alex Pretti was killed by Border Patrol agents after stepping in to help a woman being assaulted on the street.
Uprooted gathers poets writing in the aftermath, and in the long history that came before it. This is a collection about enforcement and immigration overreach under the Trump administration: the raids, the detentions, the disappearances, and the resistance rising up to meet them.
Some of these poets are immigrants. Some are citizens who’ve never had to think twice about a knock at the door. All of them are writing toward the same reckoning: what this country does in the name of law, who that law applies to, what it costs the people living here, and how much cruelty a nation will tolerate before it answers back.
