“June 14th” by Bonner Fowles

Now that we’ve shared all of the individual poems from Record of Dissent: Poems of Protest in an Authoritarian Age, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the cover art that helped bring this project to life.

The painting, titled June 14th, was created specifically for the book by Bonner Fowles, an incredible artist and an even better friend. Bonner isn’t on social media and doesn’t have a public-facing platform for his work, but his art speaks for itself. The fact that he painted this piece for the project, knowing what it stood for, means more than we can express.

It captures something essential about the spirit of the collection: watchful, tense, and defiant. We are deeply grateful to have it on the cover.
