Auto shop stays open
to grill burgers among
the unfinished labor.

Radio on Latin beats
hope’s fast drums speed
passersby away quickly.

All feel indigenous
somewhere. Anyone
could be a colonist

who wants to settle
both feet on our backs
like branding irons.

Above, moon seeks
asylum in clouds, fears
being discovered again.
